Shared moments that bring us together
Wake up, a quick coffee, and it’s off to find work. This is the day-to-day of Aurelio, who never takes no for an answer. He’s always fixing things with his carpentry skills and helping out his flatmates when they need a hand with something. The first image I had when I arrived the first day was the large coffee machine that he had installed and the long, brilliant ponytail that fell from his head.

In a job selection process, the image we present is an important consideration. Everyone projects a particular personal image and this image determines how others perceive us. In a work environment it’s essential to build a suitable image that incorporates our attitude, behaviour and dress, as well as speech that’s coherent and well-structured.

Close to 3,000 people are homeless in Barcelona. Of those 3,000, around 950 sleep rough every night according to information from the survey performed by XAPSLL in May 2016. This represents an increase of 5.5% compared to 2015. Has it ever crossed your mind that you could be one of these people one day?

The survey undertaken on the night of the 18th and morning of 19th of May in Barcelona found that there were a total of 941 people sleeping on the streets, a figure that exceeds the result of the Arrels Fundation’s 2015 survey, when the figure was 892 people.

You can now watch Mirades. Retrats sense sostre (Perspectives: A Portrait of Homelessness), the documentary made by a team of homeless individuals under the direction of Associació Càmeres i Acció. It is the culmination of a project that began over two years ago which portrays the reality of those experiencing homelessness.
