Results of the census of homeless people: We will keep fighting

People who sleep on the street do so on average for three to four years. The majority, more than 75%, have a medium or high degree of vulnerability. Four of every ten people have received emergency medical attention in the last six months. And more than 31% of homeless people report that they have been victims of verbal or physical abuse.

The Badalona Homelessness Board is born

On Thursday the 25th of May, the Taula Sense Llar de Badalona (Badalona Homelessness Board) convened, a new space that will work in a coordinated way to address the reality of people living on the streets, in temporary accommodation or other emergency housing situations.

The first Symposium of Care and Domestic Work

On the 30th May, the first Symposium of Care and Domestic Work will take place, organised by the Xarxa del Treball de la Llar Just (the Network for Fair Domestic Work), an association made up of 7 entities, among them Fundació Mambré’s Employment Service.

1,026 people sleep on the streets of Barcelona every night

The 2017 count, undertaken on the night of 17th of May, has recorded a total of 1,026 people sleeping on the streets of Barcelona, which represents an increase of 9.03% over 2016’s count. The 1,954 people sleeping in facilities run by the council and various other organisations should be added to this figure, as should the 415 people who sleep in temporary accommodation. The total number of people who are homeless, therefore, is 3,395.

17th May: Participate in Barcelona’s 2017 count

Hundreds of volunteers will once more take to the streets of Barcelona at night to carry out the count of people that have been forced to sleep out in the open. The 2017 count will take place on the 17th and 18th of May, organised by the Network for the Care of the Homeless (XAPSLL) that’s made up of around thirty organisations, including Mambré.

A Thousand Thanks! The Magic Line 2017 Closing Ceremony

Magic Line 2017 celebrated its final act on the 30th March at La Pedrera, during which it revealed the social projects chosen to receive more than 300,000 euros that were collected this year. Fundació Mambré was one such project, receiving 5,000 to go towards the work of the Employment Service.

This is the premise of Homeless (Sense Sostre in Catalan), a film written and directed by Xesc Cabot and Pep Garrido.

Shared moments that bring us together

Wake up, a quick coffee, and it’s off to find work. This is the day-to-day of Aurelio, who never takes no for an answer. He’s always fixing things with his carpentry skills and helping out his flatmates when they need a hand with something. The first image I had when I arrived the first day was the large coffee machine that he had installed and the long, brilliant ponytail that fell from his head.
